GREEN SCHOOLS - ENERGY

Energy became our second theme and was started in 2005.

This campaign was exactly along the same lines as the first one except that we nicknamed the committee "The Energy Squad". We carried out our Environmental Review and from it formulated an Action Plan to reduce the amount of electrical energy and fossil fuels used.

We took part in workshops on Energy conservation both in school and in Tullamore Court Hotel.

The Senior class visited Edenderry Power to view the operation of a Thermal Plant (Peat Burning)

The programme was linked to other areas of the curriculum and all classes produced projects on:

- Non-renewable energy 
- Renewable forms of energy - Biomass and Geothermal 
- Kyoto Protocol 
- Powerpoint presentations on Solar, Hyrdo and Wind power 
- Energy calendars 
- Food in Living Systems

"We also composed our own Energy slogan; Can't you hear? Can't you see? We must save our energy. Don't forget the important rule. turn off appliances at home and at school. Close the windows, close the doors. Turn the tap off. The decision is yours."

An Open Day was held and we invited the wider community in to view our projects. Our second Green School flag was raised by Neil Delamere, a former pupil, in May 07.
