Offaly is known as the Faithful County and is a county where many sports are played but probably the most popular would be Gaelic Games. Most of us in our school want to wear the Offaly jersey. Offaly is one of the few counties that have won All-Ireland titles in both hurling and football.
This was a marvellous achievement for a small county with only 60,000 people living in it.
Seán Evans, James' neighbour and a former pupil of our school was on the 1971/72 winning teams. Oisín's godfather Killian Farrell was a sub on the 98 Hurling team.
There are other sports played in Co Offaly. All the major towns have rugby clubs and soccer clubs. Tullamore has a famous athletic club called Tullamore Harriers.
There a number of golf clubs in County Offaly also:
- Edenderry Golf Club
- Tullamore Golf Club
- Birr Golf Club
- Esker Hills Golf Club
